Travel: Japan 2014 Day 10 // Kyoto // Eat: Ohanabo, Denbe // Walk: Kibune

We went to Kibune - initially to go to Hirobun, to try the Nagashi Soumen kawadoko ryori style. Was looking forward to this as it would be a fun experience.
The Okami at Ohanabo kindly gave us a lift to the closest Keihan subway station, where we had to take a subway to Demachiyanagi, then changed to the electric railway to Kibuneguchi.

We walked from Kibune-guchi station to Kibune (around 30 minutes of very nice walk, unlike the Tsumago-Magome hike we did two days ago) to work up our appetite.
How-E-Ver! Because of the rain yesterday, the river was overflowing, so there was no way to set up the dining platform on the river. Boo :(

As Kibune is generally well-known for fine dining kaiseki experience, all the places serve expensive - but I have no doubt they would be incredible - food; we opted for one of the few places serving more economical food - a place called Denbe (でんべ)

We tried Kamameshi Tempura Set (JPY 2926) and Hot Soba Noodle Soup Herring Set (JPY 1944). Nothing really special, but the kamameshi was quite interesting, and I loved the burnt crunchy rice rusks formed at the bottom of the pan.

Although we dropped by Arashiyama area after our Kibune trip, we didn't take any pictures. We did go to the Kyoto Arashiyama Orgel Museum (admission costed JPY 1000 per person), but photography wasn't allowed :(

So we headed back to Ohanabo for our dinner.

And what a dinner it was. A presentation of taste, artfully decorated food, and colors.

If you decided to stay at ryokans, I suggest to try their meal at least once. It would be interesting to experience different cooking style and taste of every ryokan.
We have not been disappointed.
